Many couples have to think long and hard about what song to pick for their first dance.
The odd couple have a special song from their first date or another romantic moment, which makes it easy. But if you don’t that special song already lined up, then how do you choose?
As this is a song you will be dancing to, thinking about the tempo / speed of the song is important. Not many people want to slow dance for 4 minutes infront of their guests.
You can ask a live covers band to perform it for you, which will add some extra entertainment of having it live rather than from an iPod / DJ. Most wedding bands will want to discuss the song choice before agreeing to perform it, as they want to make sure it is something they can perform well. Don’t ask your Rock / Metal band to perform an Abba song for your first dance, try and play to the bands style.
A lot of couples want to have a romantic minute to themselves on the dance floor but not too much more than that. Feel free to invite your guests on the dance floor after the first chorus – or get the singer of your live covers band to announce it on the microphone.
Usually bands will have the first dance as the opener to their first set, so normally the dancing for all the guests will carry on from the first dance.
